Tesla's own production of lifepo4 battery is accelerating! Recently, we learned from Tesla's official website that it has released a new recruitment revelation involving senior battery materials engineer positions. The role, described as primarily responsible for the Lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cathode project, will lead cross-functional teams to validate lithium iron phosphate cathode materials, develop new materials and electrochemical tests to accelerate certification times, and take the team's expertise in materials and electrochemical data interpretation to the next level. The job is located in Palo Alto, California, where Tesla's artificial intelligence and engineering headquarters are located. This hiring move also means that Tesla has plans to produce lithium iron phosphate batteries in-house. Industry insiders believe that Tesla's accelerated layout may be related to the New US tariff deal. On September 27 this year, the US government officially implemented the 301 tariff policy on China, including a 100% tariff on electric vehicles and a 25% tariff on power lithium batteries for new energy vehicles. After that, Tesla discontinued the rear-wheel drive version of the Model 3 with the lifepo4 battery in early October. In a comprehensive view, in order to reduce the impact of the new tariff deal, Tesla accelerated its own construction of lithium iron phosphate battery production capacity, it is reasonable. Although compared with the old American car companies such as Ford and General Motors, Tesla is a new car maker, but in the field of new energy vehicles, Tesla is definitely the "big brother" of the industry, and market sales continue to lead. Not only that, unlike other new forces, Tesla ahead of the layout of the power battery, such as the joint venture with Panasonic to establish production capacity, with their own force 4680 series of large cylinder battery "pushed to the altar", and ahead of overseas new energy vehicle brands to take the lead in "testing the water" lithium iron phosphate battery. The Ningde era is regarded as Tesla's "guide" in lithium iron phosphate batteries. The cooperation between Tesla and Ningde Times began in 2020, when the two sides signed a supply agreement, agreeing to cooperate from July 1, 2020 to June 30, 2022. In 2021, the cooperation between the two parties was further deepened, and in June of that year, Ningde Times announced that it had signed a contract with Tesla to supply lithium-ion power battery products to Tesla from January 2022 to December 2025. Since then, Tesla's first models equipped with lithium iron phosphate batteries have been officially launched, and through continuous cooperation, Tesla has become the largest customer in the Ningde era.

It is understood that in the field of power batteries, Tesla's cooperation with Ningde Times continues to deepen, in addition to lithium iron phosphate batteries, Ningde Times also provides other types of batteries, and even the development of lower cost batteries. For example, in March this year, Zeng Yuqun, chairman of Ningde Times, announced that Ningde Times and Tesla are cooperating to develop faster charging batteries. In addition, suffering from safety accidents of ternary batteries in energy storage devices, Tesla's energy storage business has also turned to lithium iron phosphate batteries, and still chooses to cooperate with Ningde Era. In February this year, it was revealed that Tesla plans to purchase equipment from the Ningde era and expand its battery factory in Sparks, Nevada, in a cooperation model similar to that between the Ningde Era and Ford. The plant will produce lithium iron phosphate batteries internally for Tesla Megapack, with an initial capacity of 10GWh and is expected to start production in 2025. It is worth mentioning that Tesla's first energy storage gigafactory project outside the United States has started in Shanghai, and is currently stepping up construction, and 45% of the progress has been completed as of August. At the beginning of the plant, the annual output of commercial energy storage batteries is planned to be 10,000 units, and the energy storage scale is nearly 40GWh. In the starting point of lithium battery combing, Tesla will hold hands again with Ningde Times through the Shanghai energy storage project.
